UAP Case Files

Pre-modern encounters, featuring ancient depictions and historical records of mysterious aerial phenomena.

The Close Encounter Classification System is a scale developed by American astronomer and UFO researcher J. Allen Hynek to categorize reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and related phenomena. The scale was first introduced in Hynek's 1972 book "The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry," and has since been widely adopted by both UFO researchers and enthusiasts to discuss and analyze sightings.

In a CE1, the witness reports seeing a UFO but without any interaction with the environment or people. These reports are often of lights in the sky or of craft-like objects, but there is no associated physical effect like landing marks, electromagnetic interference, or physiological effects on humans or animals.

In a CE2, there is some form of physical interaction between the UFO and the environment. This could include radar contact, landing marks, crop circles, or electromagnetic effects that interfere with vehicles or electronic devices.

CE3 involves sightings where living entities are seen in association with the UFO. This might include human-like beings, robotic entities, or creatures that don't fit any standard categorization.
